The Green City under the Sun 

Nairobi is a very modern city with one of the tallest buildings in Africa, the 38 storey Times Tower which is worth the climb (OK the lift journey) to get to see the spectacular views of the city from the top. 

And like all cities it has its fair share of places to visit and things to do. It also has a few unusual things to do as well, such as feeding a giraffe at breakfast, lunch at Carnivores where you can probably have a fair guess at their menu followed by afternoon tea at the Karen Blixen museum and ending up with cocktails in the Club Bar Terrace at the Hemingway Hotel.

Nairobi was home to Karen Blixen, the acclaimed Danish author, most famously known for her autobiography, Out of Africa, which was an Oscar winning film. Karen lived in Nairobi between 1917 and 1931 and her farm house is now home to the Karen Blixen Museum. 

Nairobi is also home to a number of cultural events from the Nairobi Film festival to many different comedy and music festivals throughout the year and attracts a number of the continent’s biggest stars and rising talent too. 

And don’t forget the shopping. There are local markets full of locally made handicrafts all over Nairobi as well as high end shops dealing in luxury items located mainly on Moi Avenue. You might even recognise some of the shop names, such as Carrefour, the French supermarket giant or Woolworths, but this is the South African owned version.
