Wonderful Vietnam
A country that will surprise and delight you with its variety and charm
Vietnam is a delightful country where no two destinations are alike. The country offers stunning natural beauty, rich cultural diversity and breathtakingly beautiful beaches. Equally, you can combine the relaxing beaches and lush, green mountains with the hustle and bustle of Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. There really is something for everyone and no two destinations are alike.
Vietnam is a country where history and modern life coexist. It is home to one of the oldest civilisations but, in more recent times, has been heavily influenced by Chinese, Indian and French cultures. This makes for a cuisine that is absolutely delicious. You can savour the fresh and flavourful dishes of pho (noodle soup), bun cha (grilled pork and noodles), cao lau (noodles with pork and herbs), banh xeo (crispy pancake) and many more. I have just listed some of my favourites and already I'm itching to go back.
If like us, you love nature and adventure, you can explore the Phong Nha Caves in central Vietnam which are among the largest and most spectacular caves in the world. You can explor them by kayak, on a boat tour or by foot. However, for absolute breathtaking beauty, a cruise along Halong Bay or Lan Ha Bay is a must. If you do, ensure you include a visit to Phu Quoc Island which has beautiful beaches, tropical forests and a fabulous national park.

If history is your thing, you must visit Hue. It is located on the banks of the beautifully named Perfume River. There is so much to enjoy; the ancient tombs of former emperors which are dotted all over the city, the rambling city architecture and fascinating museums to name but a few.
We can't write about Vietnam without mentioning the terrible conflict between the northern and southern regions of Vietnam that lasted from 1955 to 1975. The complex history can be explored by a visit to the War Remnants Museum in Ho Chi Minh City. There are photographic exhibits and weapons, vehicles and documents that articulate the battles and strategies really well. However, to really understand the effects and experiences of the war, you can immerse yourself more fully by exploring the Cu Chi Tunnels close to Ho Chi Minh. These are a network of tunnels that were used by the Viet Cong as hiding places, supply routes, living quarters and even hospitals.
