Amazing Antigua
Antigua, an island with enough beaches for a different one each day of the year!
Antigua is stunning! It’s as simple as that. It has 365 beaches so if you had the time and the inclination, you really could go to a different one each day of the year. It is a Caribbean island that is full of surprises, beauty and delicious food…..and let’s not forget the rum!
The beaches are beautiful. The sand is either soft and white or pink (largely depends on the time of the year) but whichever you choose to spend your day on, it will always have turquoise crystal-clear water and be fringed with palm trees which ripple in the breeze. You can swim, snorkel, surf, dive or just relax. However, if sailing is your thing, the Antigua Sailing Week is an annual regatta which attracts hundreds of yachts. The races are really exciting and the atmosphere is great fun.
One of my favourite ways to explore is by boat. You can find the hidden gems of an island that way and Antigua is no exception. There really is nothing like being out on the Caribbean sea, the sunshine, the dolphins, the cool box…..a little piece of heaven.
Like all of the Caribbean, the culture is rich and diverse with African, European and Indigenous influences which are evident in its music and fabulous food. However, there really is something special about Antigua.

If you fancy a beach free day, why not explore the lush green rainforest. It is truly stunning and covers about 20% of the island. It is home to many species of plants and animals. You can see orchids, huge mahogany trees, banks of bamboo and some of the animals are gorgeous little hummingbirds which dart around, parrots so colourful, and lively little monkeys. There are many ways to travel round. You can take a guided tour with a local expert or, if you’re yearning for a little more adventure, why not have a go on a zip line. A thrilling view is certainly to be had as you whizz along.
After a day in the rainforest or on the beach, what better way to round it all off with a rum punch and a plate of jerk chicken while chatting to the locals who are always happy to share a tale or two and make you feel right at home with them.
