Amazing Holidays in Mexico
Mexico - beautiful, historic and vibrant
There are so many different aspects to Mexico it’s difficult to know where to begin. The beauty and lushness of the Yucatan peninsula, the mysterious ancient civilisations of the Mayans and Aztec people, the long and beautiful shorelines, the festivals, the music, the food…….you could not fail to have an amazing trip if Mexico is your destination of choice.
The Yucatan peninsula lies between the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean sea. It is rich in Mayan culture and heritage and is a fascinating place to explore. As the area is largely composed of limestone, there are very few lakes but there are a lot of sinkholes called Cenotes that were used by the Mayan people to access the groundwater. They are beautiful to see and refreshing to swim in. Hidden by jungle, or surrounded by Mayan ruins, a day out at a Mexican cenote is an experience as much as it is a sightseeing trip.
One of the more spectacular Cenotes is Cenote Dos Ojos; a beautiful cave system and popular with snorkellers and divers alike. We can’t recommend this enough. It is awe inspiring and you will feel like you are entering a different world where you can really connect to the ancient Mayan culture and their beliefs about life and death.

When it comes to beaches, you will be hard pushed to find variety elsewhere in the world like you can in Mexico. All the beaches are stunning and range from the ultimate All Inclusive destination beaches of Cancun to Playa del Amor. The former has water parks, golf courses and loads of bars and restaurants catering to all tastes. The latter, translates as Beach of Love, and is a hidden beach inside a crater on the Marietas Islands in Nayarit. You can only access the beach by swimming through a tunnel……..anyone else hearing a James Bond theme in their head while considering it?
History, festivals, music and food make up the rest. Dia de Muertos (Day of the Dead) is probably the most iconic of festivals where people honour and remember their passed loved ones. However, Dia de la Independencia is a very big event with parades, fireworks, speeches and music. Mexico loves a festival so whenever you are thinking of going, it’s worth building a holiday to time with one of those.
