With the famous Cinque Torri (Five Towers) providing Cortina with an impressive backdrop, the skiing is equally impressive. It is easy to be out all day and not tire of the available skiing, and with the runs taking you down into the village, its also the best way to end the days skiing.
There are more than 3 dozen lifts waiting to whisk you back to the top meaning little time is spent away from the real reason you are here.
It also works for children, beginners and expert skiers. All are very well looked after here.
This resort will also be used as the host of the next Winter Olympics in 2026.
Sharing the same ski terrain as Cortina, Val Gardena is a lot more intimate than Cortina but still offers the range of skiing of its larger and noisier neighbour.
It does claim to have the longest ski run in South Tyrol though at over 10km long which should keep you busy for a while. Also, you do get to ski past a natural canyon with a frozen waterfall included.
More than half of the pistes here are for advanced and expert skiers but that does leave plenty of room though for the beginners amongst us. Enough for everyone then by the sound of it.
The owner of Fiat, Giovanni Agnelli, had a vision for the town of Sestriere just outside of Turin. In the 1930s he built a couple of hotels and 4 ski lifts and voila! The world's first purpose built ski resort was born!
Fast forward 70 years and, as a result of the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, the facilities were all upgraded and the world became aware of and noticed the Italian resort of Sestriere.
If you don't fancy skiing, then bobsledding, ice skating or dog sledding can also be tried. Well, it would be rude not to, wouldn't it?
Courmayeur pretty much has everything. Glitz, glamour, views of Mont Blac and being the top of Europe and just over the border from France.
This resort has so much going on for intermediate and advanced skiers, including the expert only and unmarked piste from Arp. There are also off piste runs where a guide is needed.
However don't worry if you are not an expert skier. Courmayeur does cater and welcomes all ski levels.
Courmayeur attracts a well to do audience with high end dining, boutique shops and luxury hotels to cater for your every need. A resort to see and be seen.
