Zermatt is quite a unique resort. Car free, unless you are a resident. It is possible to ski here all year round thanks to the Monte Rosa glacier. Being in the shadow of the Matterhorn, it is one of the most instantly recognisable mountains in the world thanks to Toblerone.
Whilst Zermatt does cater for beginners, it is more of an attraction to those who are intermediate or expert skiers. With 360km of slopes, it has one of the more extensive ski fields to explore anywhere. And that doesn't include the off piste skiing available either.
Zermatt is a ski experience that if you are serious about skiing it is serious about you.
Davos is a great ski resort. Just don't visit when the annual World Economic Forum is in town (normally the end of January).
Like many ski resorts featured here, Davos caters for the complete mix of skiing competencies from novice through to expert.
The majority of pistes are above 2,000m which means that they are as close to be guaranteed to having snow as it is possible to be.
Davos is also a large town and so has a much greater variety of apres-ski places, hotels and other accommodation.
Closely linked with Klosters there is much to see, do and ski here.
One of the oldest and most famous of Swiss Ski resorts, St Moritz has twice hosted the Winter Olympics, although not since 1948. However the ski jump and its downhill slopes are still regularly used for World Cup events. If you have never seen a ski jump up close, then trust me, they are scary.
St Moritz is also home to one of the finest ski parks in Europe. With 30 obstacles to be overcome, the Corviglia Snow Park is a challenge not to be taken lightly. You may wish to practice first at the 2 mile Paradiso park first.
Another must try event in St Moritz is kite skiing. Yep, I'll leave that one to the more brave amongst you!
Everyone knows about Saas-Fee, or at least you may not know that you do, but you almost certainly do know of it. Saas-Fee was the setting for the video to Wham's Last Christmas single.
Saas-Fee is also very popular with families. 96km of trails for intermediates, 37km of trails for beginners and with a close by practice slope, the children and learners are also well covered. Finally don't worry if you are an expert skier as there is 23km of Black runs to keep you occupied.
Similar to Zermatt, Saas-Fee is a car free village and offers all year round skiing too.
