If history is your thing, a tour round Rome, a visit to La Sagrada Familia in Barcelona, or going back to what is considered the beginning of western civilisation could be just the experience you’re looking for.  Athens is the oldest named city in the world having been continuously inhabited for around 5,000 years and is full of fascinating UNESCO sites that are just waiting for you to explore.

How about a cruise up the Norwegian Fjords.  The majesty and beauty is absolutely breath taking, and you will be treated to fabulous food, a warm welcome and amazing sights.  I have never felt quite so moved and it’s a once in a lifetime adventure.  There are different boats you can experience this trip on.  There is the traditional small cruise liner or you can really experience what life aboard is like by doing your trip on a yacht.  It is an environmentally friendly way to do it of course and very romantic.  It will give you a unique and authentic experience of the fjords, with just the sound of the wind snapping in the canvas of the sails and the whoosh of the water as the bow carves its way forward.  It really is the best way to do it.

Luxury city breaks in Europe are a wonderful treat.  We are so lucky to have so many fabulous places within a 1-3 hour flight time.   The trips above are just the tip of the iceberg…..we haven’t talked about the Northern Lights yet.

The only choice to make as far as the Northern Lights go, is where to see them.  You could combine it with a holiday up the fjords.  The further north you head, the greater the chance of seeing them.  So try Tromso in Norway, but if you fancy travelling further afield, Fairbanks in Alaska or Reykjavik in Iceland are fantastic options.

If you choose Norway, we can also build into your trip some other really exciting things like dog sledding or whale watching.  A trip to Tromso between March and September is a great time to witness the incredible aurora borealis. 

Reykjavik is more affordable and becoming more and more popular and you can see the lights on land or on a boat trip…..the latter being a spectacular experience.  Alternatively, Fairbanks in Alaska is located under the auroral oval, a ring shaped zone where aurora activity is most concentrated.  You will see the lights on most clear nights from August through to April.
