Great food, great drink, the best of times
Food Glorious Food!
Honestly, when it comes to fabulous food, where do you begin eh? Combine that with some lovely drinks and you’re speaking our language. So if we consider our areas of specialism, let’s start with Asia:
Hoi An in Vietnnam offers a really immersive experience of exploring a coconut plantation by a bamboo basket boat, a visit to a food market and finished off with a cookery lesson. You can also do a tour around Ho Chi Minh City on motorbike….always thrilling, but you will be taken to the best street food places. You can also choose to combine this one with a cookery lesson if you so choose.
In Singapore, the way to eat is from one end of the scale to the next. Every day in reasonably priced wet markets you will enjoy the best parathas you can imagine. My daughter was addicted from the very first time. Satay is a big thing in Singapore and you will be able to get some amazing dishes in most places. The financial district literally closes it’s streets on a Friday and dozens and dozens of barbecues come out and get fired up. Satay Night Fever!!! It took some convincing for me to try some tripe but I absolutely loved it. There is very little that you can’t find a version of satay for.
Surprisingly, there are a number of vineyards in Asia that are well worth a visit too. The oldest and most prestigious is Grover Zampa Vineyards in India. They are located in Nashik and Nandi hills and although they use French methods, they use Indian grapes. You can learn the history of the vineyards and sample several wines in their tasting room.
Add to your list Banan Winery in Cambodia and Monsoon Valley in Thailand. They both have excellent reputations and I’m sure if your trip is taking you to either of those areas, we can book you a fabulous experience.
You could make food and drink a bigger part of your holiday. There is a 7 day tour in South Africa that takes you from Cape Town to Johannesburg. You’ll visit some of the country’s most renowned wineries in the Cape Winelands, taste the diverse flavors of Cape Town on a food tour, learn about the culture and history of Soweto Township on a cooking class, and explore the Cradle of Humankind, where some of the oldest human fossils have been found.
If you’re looking for something closer to home, how about combining a trip for the Northern Lights, with a dining experience like no other. 18 courses at Under in Norway; a restaurant partially submerged under the sea. It’s like eating in an aquarium….but without the tropical fish flakes!
Something more traditional but very exclusive, Le Royal is a Michelin starred restaurant in the Champagne region. It is also a luxury hotel so could be a short break with a spa experience all rounded off with amazing food paired with amazing champagnes.
