Well, there really is only one way to find out. Your gotta do it. Forget snow domes in the UK (or Dubai for that matter) or dry ski slopes. They just don't match up to the real thing I'm afraid.

For me skiing is the perfect escape. You have to be focused on it from day 1. No thinking about work, home or the cost of living. This is getting away from it all, more than 2000m high in many cases.

From ski chalets similar to those that were featured in Wham's Last Christmas video through to 5 star luxury boutique hotels there really is nothing like coming back to a warm, comfortable and fabulous place after a day on the slopes. You will be tired, you may well have a nice colour to your cheeks and you certainly will have stories to tell of your day on the mountain.

Skiing is the only holiday where what you do after the days main activities is as important as the days activities and it even has its own name. Apres-ski is the legendary end to the day. You can be as involved as you wish or you can just sit back, near the roaring log fire and listen in on the jokes and stories from others.

You can get involved in some crazy snow events, dog sledding, kite skiing, half pipes and rails, even night skiing in certain resorts. I would definitely advise that you will need a second holiday to get over your skiing adventures.
